This is a huge victory for Daily Mail cleaners. Not only is the size of increase of their wages these fought for and won, but also the conditions under which they did this. First, they had no previous trade union experience as members of United Voices of the World (UVW). Second, most had never been on strike before and, as immigrants, were particularly vulnerable. Finally – the public was behind them. These cleaners got 100,000 people to sign their petition.
