The western media, impatient for things to “return to order” points out that the numbers of yellow vests have declined to about 40,000 this weekend. What this doesn’t account for is the composition of the people in the streets (increase of working class people) as well as the support of the French population. The yellow jackets still have the support of 70% of the French population. As for Macron, he is surrounded by the military police and there is a standing helicopter ready to whisk him away. His advisors have told him not to leave the Elysée palace. In a significant way, he is politically trapped and making decisions behind closed doors.
