If we put aside the obvious dangers involved in joining the military, how is life on military bases for working class people compared to life today for the civilian working class? This article, by an ex-military person gives some surprising answers. What I would want to know is, what proportion of people who enlist are deployed? How much can a recruit in any branch reduce the likelihood of being deployed? I also wonder if there is any variation within the branches of the military in terms of chances of deployment.
