Italy Gets Bailout From European Union: Some Countries More Equal Than Others?

The European Union intervened in the Italian  economy to prevent a public run on the banks. There are always political-economic reasons for this as well as geopolitical ones, as this article touches on. It’s always interesting to see the European Union, whose ideological claim to existence is to unify Europe and grant bailouts to some countries and not others. To paraphrase Orwell, “We are all equal members of the Great European Family, but some families are more equal than others.”
