It is no accident that COVID-19 is spreading in western countries with greater casualties than in China. Forty years of market fundamentalism has weakened the healthcare industry’s ability to respond. The western capitalist rulers’ incompetent response is being exposed to the whole world. But these myopic capitalists, no matter how much they bail out the banks and their industries, face a foundational problem. Dead workers produce no profit for them. Unemployed workers cannot buy their goods to realize their profits. They are too busy obsessing over fictitious capital to understand this.
