Workers’ Collective Creativity Pays off for Grocery Workers in D.C.

With union membership at an all-time low in the US, and the defensive conservatism of its leadership, it is no wonder that workers are skeptical of unions and have become passive. But not all unions are conservative – nor are their members. The rank-and-file in this D.C. grocery workers’ union showed an ability to manipulate Safeway and Giant management, use Facebook as an organizing device and organize workers in solidarity across both stores. Bravo!
