As soon as many people hear “right wing” in Germany they think in terms of fascists. But the Alternatives for Deutschland (AfD) party is hardly fascist. While its major focus is anti-immigration, it also promises to better the life of Germans whose golden years of social democracy are behind them. Having won 13% of the vote in the 2017 elections it has a political platform that must be refreshing to the rancid smell of the SPD and Christian Democrat coalition.
