Occupy’s Tent is too Big: Why “99%”Lacks a Class Analysis

While the Occupy slogan, “The 1%”, was valuable for describing the tiny number of people with exorbitant wealth, the second part of the slogan “The 99%” contains deep problems. It slurs over the real differences between the upper middle class (9%), which recent research has shown has accumulated wealth since the crash), and all the other social classes. It also lumps into the mix the police – whose primary function is to repress the working class.
