Legitimacy of Elites Continues Free-Fall: Most Americans Claim Morality Not Linked to Religion

As we remember it, the United States is the most religious country of all the industrial capitalist countries. But this is becoming less so. According to this article 56% of American say it is not necessary to believe in God to be moral. This is a significant change. The article also draws out the contradiction between elites who think they have to act religious even if they aren’t and an American public who thinks religion is not that important.
