Agricultural Capitalism in India: Sugar Farmers Commit Suicide

Before agricultural capitalism hit India big-time in the 80’s, farmers had a hard life. But one of the few bright spots was that they could save a portion of their land to produce their subsistence. Now that India’s farmers have to compete in a global market with other countries producing sugarcane, the results are heavy debt, and in too many cases, suicide.
